A Little About Our History

We started off in a small Japanese restaurant in a humble city North of Victoria, Sidney 10 years ago. To be completely honest, we lacked experience in cooking. We didn’t offer the best food or the fanciest menus. We focused on customer service. We were on a mission to provide the best service and as for everything else, we can slowly improve. Ten years later, we are the only remaining Japanese sushi restaurant in Sidney. We would be lying if we said it was easy.

With the same motto we started in Sidney, we will apply it to our new venture at Ono Poké in Victoria. Our customer experience will be our main priority. In addition, we will also be offering the freshest locally sourced ingredients.

Mahalo!

Aloha!

Poké, directly translated from the Hawaiian language means to slice, diced or cut. It refers to raw marinated fish – most commonly, tuna.

Traditionally, the marinated tuna is then tossed in sweet white onions, green onions, sesame seeds and placed on top of a bed of rice.

Poké has travelled across the world and translated by many different cultures. Far from where it originated but unique and delicious in its own way.

The vision started when I visited Hawaii and had the most amazing poké in the world. Returning home to beautiful BC, it was hard to find flavors reminiscing my time in the aloha state. After trying many local restaurants offering  poké, although delicious, it was not traditional.

Determined to bring traditional flavors of Hawaii to our community, we’ve spent countless hours of research, consumed fish at an unsustainable rate, and trying different ingredients and recipes. We believe to have created something we are proud of and that everyone will enjoy.
